If you are a new migrant settling in Australia or New Zealand, IOM is here to help and can offer you flexible fares and generous baggage allowance on carriers operating from/to Australia covered under the IOM global agreement.

Who is eligible?

IOM can assist you if you are settling for the first time in Australia or New Zealand with the following visas:

IOM offers travel assistance for Global Special Humanitarian Visa (Subclass 202) holders (including visas for the Community Support Programme). Our priority is "continuity of care": we monitor each movement from embarkation through transit to arrival, assisting at each point, and alerting of any changes to itineraries and schedules.

IOM travel assistance includes flexible airfares with increased baggage allowance and the ability to select additional optional assistance depending on your requirements. Optional assistance may include transit assistance, airport assistance, exit permit assistance, and medical or non-medical escorts.

IOM CANNOT assist you in traveling to Australia or New Zealand for the following purposes:

  • Travelling to Australia or New Zealand with a tourist
  • Working Holiday visas
  • Traveling to Australia or New Zealand with any other short-stay visa
  • International students (except the scholarship holders who have been referred to IOM by the government or university)
How can I apply?

Step 1: Contact us

The applicant or the sponsor can contact IOMAustralia@iom.int to start the process. IOM will respond to any questions you might have. To provide you with a quote, please include in your email:

  • Copy of the visa grant letter.
  • Completed Case Details Sheet.

Step 2: Quote

IOM will provide you with the quote and baggage allowance.

Step 3: Payment

Once the quote is accepted by you, IOM will send you the payment advice which also includes various payment options.

Step 4: Payment

When the payment is received, IOM will issue the tickets and email them to you.

I have already purchased my ticket. Can IOM help me increase the baggage allowance?

No, IOM can only help you increase the baggage allowance on the flights booked an ticketed through IOM.

How can I make the payment to IO

You can make the payment by electric fund transfer, bank cheque, or money order. You can also make the payment to the IOM office closest to you.

You can make the payment by your own, or through your proposers or friends in Australia.

I have already made an initial entry to Australia to find a job and went back to my country. Now I am ready to settle to Australia with my family. Can I still access to IOM services?

If you did not use IOM services for the initial entry and your second travel is your settlement travel, you can access to IOM services.

Can IOM help me arrange shipment of my household items?

If you did not use IOM services for the initial entry and your second travel is your settlement travel, you can access to IOM services.

No, IOM can only assist you with the discounted ticket and more generous check-in baggage. You need to contact the local cargo company.

I am planning to go to Australia and come back in 2-3 months later to sell my house. Can IOM issue return ticket for me?

No, IOM can only assist you with one-way settlement travel.

Can I change my flionce the payment is made?

Yes you can change the flight, subject to the conditions and availability.

Can I cancel my flight after the payment is made?

As a rule, if the travel is cancelled after payment has been received, IOM will refund the full amount of airfare less cancellation penalty incurred by the airlines. We will retain the service fee as an administrative charge.

I would like to have a stop-over en route.

Voluntary stop-over is not permitted for the travel under IOM auspices.
